Warming up before exercise and cooling down afterwards are recommended physical activity practises. The first part of this Resource provides opportunities for students to explore the importance of warming up the body in order to prepare it safely and effectively for physical activity. Students will identify the parts of a warm up and participate in a variety of joint mobilising, pulse raising and stretching activities.

The second part of the Resource provides opportunities for students to engage in a variety of cooling down and stretching activities. Through active participation and teacher guidance, students will recognise the benefits of cooling down and stretching after exercise and how relaxation techniques can help the body return to a more restful state.
